Information:

We are excited for the Spring 2010 Season to begin! Our Director of Coaching and Player Development is professional lacrosse player, Sean Lindsay. Sean played for Syracuse University from 2000-2005 where he was a two time All American and Team Captain. He has played professionally and coached since 2004. Sean brings a wealth of knowledge to the Westlake Lacrosse Club and has been instrumental in growing our Youth program!

BOYS YOUTH MANDATE AND PHILOSOPHY:

Develop a deep and broad Youth Lacrosse program that is both developmental in nature, as well as a feeder program for our community's High School JV and Varsity program. Every player will be taught the fundamentals of the game, teamwork and sportsmanship. By the time players finish the 7/8 Grade Division, they will have a complete mastery of fundamental skills, advanced game strategy and main plays that will be featured at the High School level.

CODE OF CONDUCT:

Players, Coaches and Parents will always conduct themselves in a way that is appropriate and respectful to the sport of Lacrosse. Prior to the Spring 2009 Season all players, coaches and parents are required to read and sign a Code of Conduct Agreement. Failure to adhere to the Code of Conduct may lead to suspension or termination of the privilege to attend practices and games and is within the sole discretion of the Coaches and the Westlake Lacrosse Board of Directors. All parents and players will be required to adhere to the SCLA Code of Conduct which is posted at www.sclacrosse.org/leagues

Boys 3/4 Grade Program                 Director: Dave Naylor

Philosophy: "Teach first, Win second". Balanced playing time for everyone on the team. If there are multiple teams, they will be split evenly. Success is not based on game to game wins, but on how much each player and the overall team has improved from the beginning of the season to the end of the season. Players should grasp fundamental skills, as well as understand the basic offensive and defensive game strategies.

Boys 5/6 Grade Program                 Director: Mike Canepa

Philosophy:  Continue to lead with teaching. Everyone plays, but level of playing time is based on ability and effort. Players should continue to hone basic skills, with the addition of being introduced to more advanced drills, skills and game strategies. While in 3/4 grade, players are introduced to most basic elements-- in 5/6 grade, players are expected to fully grasp strategies and perfect basic skill sets  Fundamental skills include: Cradling, Passing, Catching, Scooping, Shooting.

Boys 7/8 Grade Program                 Director: Dan Shorts

Philosophy:  Players are separated on an A and B team based on skill level. Playing time on A is based on skill and effort, but everyone still plays at least once a quarter. Playing time on B is more equal and is looked at more as a developmental program. 5/6 Head Coach will complete a player rating for all incoming 7th Graders. Advanced skills are taught with more of an equal balance between skill based drills and strategy based efforts and game situations. Players will be running the basic plays that will be featured at the High School level.

Girls 2nd - 8th Grade Program        DirectorAlison Brittain

Philosophy: At Los Angles Women's Lacrosse (LAWL), we stress not only the importance of competition and hard work, but also of sportsmanship and respect. It is our belief that the sport of lacrosse exists to foster healthy teammate relationships and respect for one's opponent, on top of building physical strength and promoting overall health."
